In response to a number of reported cases of Covid-19 President Danilo Medina gave an address to the nation on the 17th March to declare a state of emergency in the Dominican Republic and announce a series of measures to try and stop the spread of the virus.
Following this address, the COPA schools in La Hoya and Bombita have closed and will remain so until the 13th April 2020. The school staff and committees in the US & UK are in regular contact and will be taking any required steps to follow government guidelines and prioritise the health of the local communities.
Our Project Trust volunteers have returned safely to their homes in the UK and we thank them for their support and commitment to the COPA schools over the last seven months.
We wish all of our supporters, pupils and their families, teachers and staff good health during these exceptional times.
